Tomorrow evening, look to the west-northwest just after the Sun dips completely below the horizon.  Just above the horizon and you will see the planet (or goddess) Venus.  While Venus will be slightly challenging to see, she officially rises on May 6th.

This marks an important part of Venus’ synodic cycle.  Referring to the mythology of Inanna (from Sumerian & Babylonian history), Venus is ascending from the underworld, in which she was invisible to our eyes.  In Shamanic Astrology, Venus represents the emerging feminine principle within each person.   Everyone has an emerging feminine principle and knowing what sign your Venus was in at the time of your birth provides a major clue as to what archetypal feminine principal you are working on in this lifetime.  The ascension of the feminine at this point creates opportunities for us to re-capture our inner feminine energy in a healthy way.

Venus-Moon Conjunction on May 10th, 2013

Venus-Moon Conjunction on May 10th, 2013

With each month Inanna gains back her “vestments” or points of power symbolically represented by material items.  These items relate to the chakras or energy centers within our bodies and during this ascension period with the 1st chakra (or root chakra) on May 10th as Venus dawns her royal robe.    This is represented in the night sky (or twilight) with a Venus-Moon conjunction.

In Shamanic Astrology, we refer to these Venus-Moon conjunctions as Gates.  And on May 10th, it is known as the Gate of Manifestation.  This Gate will be difficult to see because the Moon has the slightest of crescents at this point being only 1 day old (lunar age).

Around the world we honor the ascension of Venus and the 1st Gate by going outside where there is a clear horizon and witnessing these events.  It essence, we are being called to tune into and meditate on what feminine principle means to us, allowing that emerging part of ourselves to be recognized and used to our benefit, ultimately paving the way to wholeness.
