Tonight, the waxing crescent Moon is near the star Spica in late degrees of Libra is moving closer to the planetary pair of MarMars-Saturn Moon 8-29-14s and Saturn (in Scorpio). Those three will be forming a long triangle tonight in the southwestern sky, a preview of when Mars, Saturn and the Moon form a loose conjunction on the evening of the 31st. In some parts of the world (like west Africa and the Atlantic Ocean), the Moon’s occultation with Saturn will be visible.

Under clear skies, the crescent Moon can be a dramatic sight as it sets with a bright star. The outline of the whole Moon can be seen as the coloration filter through the atmosphere makes for a impressive show. The Spica-Moon conjunction is a regular, monthly event but it reminds us of the sacredness of our relationship to the Earth and those around us and not to take them for granted.

The planetary dance that takes place in the celestial world embodies the stories, myths and legends of our human tribal history for many thousands of years.  They are always a part of us.  Go out to see this several-day event and tune into it from more than an intellectual curiosity.  There is feeling and there is soul in this connection to the cosmos.  What comes to mind when you meditate under the night lights?  How does it affect you?  Even if its cloudy out, the celestial forms are still up there sharing with us the ancient wisdom of eons ago.   There is nothing imagined about this connection as we humans have had a relationship with these night lights far too long to keep out of our hearts and minds.  The sacred relationship to the stars and planets is as important as the one with the Earth and other people around us.  Check in with those relationships and see what makes them sacred.
