EDGEWALKER COLLISION
The stakes are being raised a notch whenever Saturn enters the sign (or archetype) of Scorpio. The rule enforcer and collective wisdom, Saturn, meets the strong-willed, impassioned and master of life force, Scorpio. What is the world or humanity being asked? What buried shadows have yet to be uncovered?
Saturn entered Scorpio on October 6, 2012 for the first time since it left that sign in 1985. This ingress (or entry) into Scorpio creates a new, denser wrinkle into the heavy world transits of the Pluto-Uranus square that are currently ongoing.
Like any Saturn transit, this is about running up against the limits and boundaries in life. But with Scorpio’s desire to test and push beyond the boundaries, the Saturn transit can serve as a check and balance or more dramatically, a collision with the rules and regulations of the middle world.
A short explanation of the Scorpio archetype would have to be delved into first. Seasonally, it is the time of mid-autumn in the northern hemisphere when the Earth retreats into shadow and another death/rebirth cycle commences. Most plants lose parts of themselves while animal life hibernates, migrates south or goes into hiding or otherwise prepares for the coming winter season.
As it relates to the human psyche, Scorpio is about the death/rebirth cycle. It operates through passion, intensity, control/command over emotions and life force energy, development of a strong will and ego structure and testing and pushing the human limits, sometimes to an extreme level. Scorpio is also tantric and sexual. It has also become known in Shamanic Astrology as the “Edgewalker.”
With Saturn bringing in the rules, limitations and boundaries of the middle world, this combination can be seen as a ‘gut check’ for the world and for those who have one of the inner planets, Sun or Moon in Scorpio on the Natal chart. For those individuals, patience must be exercised over what one feels they control or seem to control. The message is to shed one’s skin, no matter how uncomfortable it may feel. Knowing the new skin is emerging for one’s benefit is major signal to let go of those controls or items that no longer serve in a healthy way.
Growth through limits and boundaries is a key in this transit or really, in any Saturn transit. But for Scorpio, it can be an invitation for people with Scorpio energy to push themselves even more. However, this is a process of learning that there truly are limits to being human; that rules and laws do apply to everyone. Saturn transited Scorpio late in December 1982 – April 1983, then again in August 1983 to November 1985. While Pluto entered Scorpio late in 1983 (coinciding with the Saturn in Scorpio transit), the archetype of Scorpio was in full view during the Invasion of Grenada, the bombing in Beirut and the Iran-Contra affair in 1985 and 1986. The shadows of the government were in full view on the world stage where law.
Saturn in Scorpio has qualities that are similar to the Pluto in Capricorn transit that has been ongoing for a few years now. Globally, the shadows and fears are pushed to the surface in order to be faced and integrated for the benefit of all. The more those fears and shadows are resisted, the more challenging the transit becomes. The fears and shadow elements lie in the hidden realms and it’s typically an area where secrets are kept. These secrets, if revealed would show the true extent of a person, group or government’s control and manipulation in general.
An extreme view of this transit could mean a potential for deeper, tighter control mechanisms to be put in place in communities and nations throughout the globe. This could be done using prejudice and judgment of others, creating new laws or modifying old ones out of fear for facing their own truth and what lies within their spirit. In relation to the current state of the Uranus/Pluto square, this can be an explosive component to an otherwise, already heated and troubled state humanity has found itself at this time. Ultimately, the goal of this transit is to understand there are limits to power and control and that rules apply to everyone on the planet.
